In June, Lennox Productions brought the much-loved Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to the Towngate Theatre in Basildon, with audiences treated to three performances packed with colour, energy, music and plenty of fun.
The production was particularly special as it marked the first time that Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat had ever been performed at the Towngate Theatre, making it a fantastic milestone for Lennox Productions and an exciting addition to the theatre’s history.
The musical tells the biblical story of Joseph, the favourite son of Jacob, whose jealous brothers sell him into slavery after becoming envious of their father’s love for him and his famous coat of many colours. Taken to Egypt, Joseph’s extraordinary ability to interpret dreams eventually brings him to the attention of Pharaoh, changing his fortunes and setting him on a journey from hardship to success. Along the way, the story is brought to life through a wonderfully eclectic mix of musical styles, from country and rock ‘n’ roll to pop and beautiful ballads.
From the moment the curtain went up, the cast transported audiences into Joseph’s incredible story, with vibrant costumes, energetic choreography and a fantastic soundtrack bringing this much-loved musical to life.
The production featured an outstanding leading cast, with James Foale taking on the role of Joseph and Reanne Nash as the Narrator. Both received particular praise for their performances, with James bringing warmth, charisma and powerful vocals to the title role, while Reanne’s confident performance and beautiful vocals made her a standout Narrator.
Marty Doyle embraced the role of the Elvis-inspired Pharaoh with plenty of swagger and charm, while Fleur Sumption impressed with her beautiful harmonies in One More Angel in Heaven.
A special mention must also go to our young performers in Team Egypt, who took to the stage with enthusiasm and confidence. Alongside the wider ensemble, they helped create the energy and excitement that made the production such a joy to watch.
The production was brought together by an incredible team behind the scenes. A huge thank you goes to Vanda Morgan, Director, Natalie Thurlow, Musical Director and Dance Captain, and Gemma Fitzmaurice, Production Manager, for their hard work, creativity and dedication in bringing the show together.
We are also incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make the production possible — from the cast and creative team to our backstage crew, volunteers, costume and props teams, technicians and everyone who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Productions like this take a huge team effort, and every single person played an important part.

Most importantly, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat gave our audiences three wonderful evenings of entertainment while showcasing the incredible talent, dedication and community spirit that make Lennox Productions so special.
