AV1 Robots
Keeping children connected to school, friends and learning when they can’t be there in person
When a child is undergoing cancer treatment, long periods away from school can lead to isolation, anxiety and gaps in learning. Missing lessons is challenging but being separated from friends, routines and normal daily interactions can be even harder.
Our AV1 robots give children the chance to stay connected to their school community, even when they are too unwell or unsafe to attend in person. The AV1 acts as the child’s “eyes, ears and voice” in the classroom, allowing them to join lessons in real time from home or hospital.
Children can see the class, hear the teacher, ask questions, take part in group work and stay involved in school life all at the touch of a button.
What the AV1 Robot Does
The AV1 robot is placed in the child’s usual classroom. Using a secure app on a tablet or mobile device, the child can:
- join lessons in real time
- speak to their teacher and classmates
- hear everything happening in the room
- move the robot’s head to look around
- take part in group discussions
- maintain friendships and social contact
The robot is completely secure and private. It cannot record or take screenshots. Only the child has access to the live feed.

How We Support Schools
We work directly with the school to:
- deliver, set up and maintain the robot
- provide full training for teachers and staff
- offer ongoing technical and educational support
- liaise with SENCOs, pastoral leads and leadership teams
- ensure the child’s needs and access requirements are fully understood
Our AV1 Coordinator, provides practical guidance to ensure the robot integrates smoothly into daily classroom life.
