Piper’s Family Story
After Piper’s parents found a 4cm mass on her head, Piper was diagnosed with cancer. Her father had to take a lot of time off work, and Piper’s mother had to give up work entirely. We were there for her family.

Piper’s parents saw four different consultants before eventually hearing the devastating news that their young daughter had cancer.
We were both there and we both just broke down because as soon as you get told something like that, everyone ultimately thinks the worst. That it is the end.
Financial strain.
To care for their sick daughter, Piper’s Mother had to give up work and her Father had to take a lot of time off.
Unfortunately, it is common for childhood cancer to have a huge impact on a family, with 42% of parents giving up work and 49% experiencing a loss of earnings* while they care for their sick child.
We were there.
We were able to support Piper’s family with a £250 Care and Crisis Grant to ease their financial stress. We also provided the family with a Respite Break and vouchers for days out to make some special memories and enjoy time together, away from hospitals and treatment.
It just consumes you, I gave up work Andy [Piper’s Father] has had to take so much time off work, the financial strain is just overwhelming. So then to be given a little grant to help you get through it makes such a big difference to your life.
