Gallagher UK raises over £4,000 to help children and families affected by childhood cancer

Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund is thrilled to share the amazing efforts of Gallagher UK’s IT team, based in London, who raised an incredible £4,290 through their 2024 fundraising initiatives. This generous support will directly benefit children and families affected by childhood cancer, funding vital services such as respite breaks and our care and crisis grants.

Gallagher UK’s decision to support Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund stems from a personal story shared below by Juliet Sharman, Head of IT Service for Retail & Pen at Gallagher.

Juliet’s nephew George was diagnosed with Hodgkinson Blood Cancer, on his 15th birthday, during the COVID pandemic. George was referred to the University College London Hospital for radiotherapy and chemotherapy; it was an incredibly diffcult time for him and his family.

Since receiving his cancer diagnosis, George struggled with his mental health. However, Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund were there to support and provided him with access to the counselling that he needed.

George, now 19-years-old, is cancer free. This year he started a media apprenticeship and is thriving as he looks ahead to the future. The experience motivated Juliet and her colleagues to raise funds for Lennox, knowing how crucial the charity’s support can be for families navigating the challenges of childhood cancer.

Gallagher’s fundraising kicked off with a raffle, led by Ahmed Patel, Application Service Manager for EMEA, along with Simone Grima, Executive PA, and Brent Kruger, CIO, UK & EMEA. The team organised a raffle and a cake sale which, with Gallagher’s matched giving, raised £2,040 and £2,250 respectively.

The funds raised by Gallagher UK have had a direct impact on ten families. Four families received a respite break and spending money giving them the chance to spend valuable time together in a peaceful setting, away from the trauma of treatment and hospital appointments. Another six families received a crucial Care and Crisis Grants: Providing financial assistance help with costs associated with a cancer diagnosis, such as travel to treatment centres, hospital living costs and even help towards utility bills.

Juliet said: “It was heartwarming to see colleagues getting involved with the fundraising and making donations. At Gallagher, we are very passionate about giving back to communities where we are based and supporting good causes that help communities. The charity does really brilliant work to support children and their families in navigating the trauma of a childhood cancer diagnosis, and I am delighted that our team could help make a difference.”

Lindsey Bidwell, Relations & Partnership Manager at Lennox added: “We are so grateful to Gallagher UK for their incredible support. Their efforts will directly impact families like George’s by providing the crucial help and services they need during such challenging times. We deeply appreciate their generosity and partnership in helping us continue this vital work.”
